Epic Misfire from NDP MPPs disappointing: PC Leader Brown
September 29, 2017

Ontario PC Leader Patrick Brown expressed disappointment today at the epic misfire from the provincial NDP directed at Nipissing MPP and life-long northerner Vic Fedeli.

“While the PCs raised alarm bells this week about Liberal attacks of the North over their egregious "No Man's Land" comments, the NDP sat silent. It’s only now, as the NDP realize they have lost momentum in the North, that they speak out,” said Patrick Brown.

In a speech that he has delivered countless times in the legislature (see herehereherehereherehere) Fedeli talks about the beauty of northern Ontario wetlands - and swamps are a form of wetlands (see the official government explanation here at: https://www.ontario.ca/page/wetland-conservation). This is part of the geography of the North, and additionally most of the rock in the North is part of the Canadian Shield. The Ontario PCs have become a strong voice for the North, as evidence by our recent by-election victory in Sault Ste. Marie.

“I have never met a more proud northerner in my life than Vic Fedeli. I cannot speak to Vic for more than five minutes without him championing a cause in the region or sharing his pride at the accomplishment of a local charity. This is the same man who served as mayor of North Bay for seven years while donating 100 per cent of his salary to local charities.”

The attack comes the same day that the Fedeli family donated $150,000 to the Nipissing Serenity Hospice. This brings the total of donations made by Fedeli and his wife Patty to $1.5 million. He has also:

  • Donated $250,000 to Nipissing University to fund the Vittorio Fedeli Business Centre in honour of his grandfather.
  • Donated $100,000 to Canadore College’s School of Aviation.
  • Donated $150,000 to the North Bay General Hospital.
  • As Mayor of North Bay he worked for free, and donated his salary to a different charity every single year.
  • Built a business in North Bay that was named one of the 50 best places to work in Canada.

“I wish the NDP would focus their efforts on condemning Liberal indifference to Northern Ontario, and less on saving their own seats as Liberal enablers. This is the same party that supported the disgraceful Green Energy Act that has pushed Northern Ontarians into energy poverty. If the NDP didn't realize the North is situated on the Canadian Shield before, I invite them to join me on my 28th visit since becoming Leader to see this beautiful geographic landscape,” concluded Brown.
