LEADER OF THE ONTARIO PC PARTY

John Tory, was elected Leader of the Ontario PC Party in 2004 after a career that prepared him well for the challenges of provincial leadership. Indeed, no provincial politician in Ontario today is better qualified to understand the challenges we face and make the right decisions to ensure our future security and prosperity.

Business Leader …

John's early career years were spent practising law in Toronto and working for Ontario Premier Bill Davis. Upon his return to law, John accepted invitations to join the boards of directors of several prominent Canadian companies including the Rogers organization. He subsequently joined that group of companies as President and CEO, first of Rogers Media and then Rogers Cable.

John successfully positioned Rogers as an industry leader. At the same time, he introduced an unprecedented degree of CEO accountability. John's customer focus is reflected today in his interest in hearing firsthand from Ontario residents. He arrives daily at his office at 6:15 a.m. so that he can spend time personally answering emails from people he has met while touring across the province.

Dedicated Volunteer …

Throughout his life, John Tory has lived his belief in the importance of community, giving freely of his time and energy.

As the 2001 volunteer chair for Metro Toronto United Way, he spearheaded community fundraising drives that helped raise a then record-breaking $75 million to help the homeless and less fortunate.

And he chaired two campaigns that raised $75 million to support the many inner city health programs and services of St. Michael's Hospital in Toronto. He was honoured in 2002 as Volunteer Fundraiser of the Year.

An avid sports fan, John also served as a volunteer Chairman of the Canadian Football League for nine years including four as League Commissioner. He is credited with returning stability and growth to the CFL. In 1999, he was cited as one of the ten most influential people in Canadian sports in the 20th century.

Political Leader …

John left Rogers in 2003 when the desire to put his energy and experience to work for a better Ontario drew John back to public life.

Motivated by the desire to provide the people of Ontario with the strong, honest, accountable government they deserve, John is committed to doing his part to build on Ontario's great traditions for our children and grandchildren.

John Tory was elected leader of the Ontario PC Party on September 18, 2004 and was elected MPP for the riding of Dufferin-Peel-Wellington-Grey in 2005. He is currently leading the PC team in holding Dalton McGuinty’s Liberals to account while preparing for the 2011 election by renewing the Party.

Family Focused …
John's wife, Barbara Hackett, has been his enthusiastic partner throughout his career. They have been married for 28 years. Barbara holds an MBA from York University and is a small business owner. John and Barbara have four grown children: John, Christopher, Susan and George.

If I have one hope, it is that my wife Barbara and I have been able to pass along to our children the strong values that my parents instilled in me – to work hard for the things that matter – whether they be family, community, business or public service; to honour your commitments; to be accountable for your actions; and, to respect and appreciate the diversity that is the heart of Ontario's unique culture.
