Given his record of hiking taxes, killing jobs, and doubling the provincial debt through costly scandals and failed energy experiments, it’s not surprising that Dalton McGuinty would want to keep his Fall Economic Statement a secret from Ontario families. By Dalton McGuinty’s own law, the Government is supposed to deliver an economic outlook and fiscal review by November 15.
The Fall Economic Statement is an important means of letting hard-working Ontario families, businesses and investors know what’s happening in the provincial economy so they can plan for the year ahead. Delaying the update will do nothing to restore confidence. Ontario families deserve to know what the McGuinty Government is doing to wrestle its out-of-control spending, record deficits and debt, and why they have waited until the last possible moment to provide an update.
In the next provincial election, Ontario families will have a clear choice between Dalton McGuinty, whose high-taxing, big-spending Government can’t live up to its own laws, and a Tim Hudak Ontario PC Government that will bring greater accountability and give families a much-needed break.
