Thursday, August 25th, 2011

NEWS:

Tonight, Ontario PC Leader Tim Hudak congratulated Kirk Russell on his nomination as the Party’s official candidate for Davenport. Hudak thanked Russell for his dedication to Toronto’s hardworking families, seniors and business owners. Russell spoke about the need for change from Dalton McGuinty’s tax hikes, expensive energy experiments and reckless spending.

Tim Hudak also thanked Antonio Garcia, the previous Ontario PC candidate for Davenport, for his unwavering commitment to the families in his riding, and expressed the Party’s support as Garcia steps aside to address a family matter.

With changebook, the Ontario PCs have a focused plan to put families first and give them the relief they need. Changebook will put more money in the pockets of hardworking Davenport families, provide change to guarantee the services they need, such as health and education, and change to clean up Dalton McGuinty’s legacy of waste, fraud and secret deals.

Russell is a homebuilder whose community volunteerism includes mentoring at the Dovercourt Boys and Girls Club, and implementing a Christmas Food Basket Drive for needy families. As father of two young children, he understands the kind of change Toronto families need.

QUOTES:

“Dalton McGuinty’s Tax Man routine has produced higher taxes, higher hydro bills, and left families asking for relief. With Kirk as their representative at Queen’s Park in an Ontario PC government, the hardworking families of Davenport will finally get the respect they deserve.”
-Tim Hudak, Ontario PC Leader

“Our community’s families are working harder and getting less because of the McGuinty Liberals’ tax hikes, waste, secret deals and expensive energy experiments. Changebook offers families the change they deserve.”
-Kirk Russell, Davenport Ontario PC Candidate

QUICK FACTS:

A Tim Hudak government will change the tax system to allow all couples to share up to $50,000 of their income for tax purposes. A typical middle class family earning $70,000 could save $476 per year.
To give families additional tax relief and to spur economic growth, a Tim Hudak government will lower income taxes by 5% on the first $75,000 of taxable income. This will put $258 back in the pocket of a taxpayer earning $70,000 each and every year when our tax relief plan is fully implemented.
A PC government would provide $275 in immediate relief on rising energy bills for families and seniors facing rising energy bills by:
Removing the HST from home hydro and home heating bills;
Removing the Debt Retirement Charge from residential hydro bills. The full amount had been collected by 2010 – yet the McGuinty government extended it to 2018.
