The following is a statement by Ontario PC Deputy Leader Christine Elliott on the 50th anniversary of Jamaica’s Independence Day:

“Today marks the 50th anniversary of Jamaica’s independence, which citizens here in Ontario have celebrated every year since this historic milestone was achieved.

“This day also gives us the opportunity to recognize the more than 230,000 Jamaican-Canadians who make significant contributions to our province every day – from the hard-working entrepreneurs who strengthen our economy to the community leaders who have excelled in the arts, sports, academia and so many other areas.

“As Deputy Leader of the Ontario PC Party, I would like to thank the Jamaican-Canadian community for making our province a richer place to live for all Ontarians, and wish you the best as you celebrate Jamaica’s Independence Day this weekend with your friends and family.”
