Statement on Queen Elizabeth’s Diamond Jubilee

Monday, February 6th, 2012

The following is a statement by Ontario PC Leader Tim Hudak recognizing the 60th Anniversary of the reign of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II:

“Today we celebrate the remarkable milestone of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee anniversary of her ascension to the throne.

“At the young age of 25, the young monarch grappled with the death of her father as she rose to the throne to guide and support the Commonwealth nations.

“Over the last six decades, the Queen has joined all Canadians in our journey as we have grown as a country.

“She was here at the opening of the St. Lawrence Seaway in 1959. She celebrated Expo 67, the 1976 Montreal Olympics and the Commonwealth Games on two separate occasions and gave us our political independence in 1982 by signing the Constitution Act.

“As the head of the Commonwealth of Nations, the Queen continues to be a figure of wisdom, stability, and grace, and to demonstrate her devotion towards helping the global community.

“For all citizens of Ontario and Canada, today is a reminder of our country’s rich history, and a Queen whose reign is worthy of the celebration of this day.”
