The following is a statement by Ontario PC Deputy Leader Christine Elliott on Singapore’s National Day:

“On August 9th, we join the province’s Singaporean-Canadian community to mark National Day, a celebration of Singapore’s independence, achieved 47 years ago.

“Singapore’s National Day is an opportunity for all Ontarians to celebrate the significant lasting contributions this island nation has made to the world and Singaporean-Canadians have made to our province.

“As one of the Asian Tigers, Singapore has enjoyed tremendous economic success in manufacturing, international finance and global trade, becoming one of Canada’s most valued partners.

“Across the province, Singaporean-Canadians have brought their values of hard work and entrepreneurship to businesses big and small, creating new economic opportunities for all Ontarians. They’ve also created a thriving, welcoming community in which people from all backgrounds can share, contributing to Ontario’s rich legacy of multiculturalism.

“As Deputy Leader of the Ontario PC Caucus, I would like to thank Ontario’s Singaporean-Canadian community for your many contributions and extend my best wishes as you commemorate this historic occasion with your family, friends and neighbours.”
