Statement on Yom Kippur
25 September 2012
The following is a statement from Ontario PC Leader Tim Hudak on Yom Kippur:
Today marks the holiest day in the Jewish year, Yom Kippur – a day of repentance, forgiveness and prayer. Yom Kippur follows Rosh Hashanah, a time of reflection as the previous year ends and the new one begins.
Yom Kippur brings the entire Jewish community together as people from around the world turn their focus towards the holiness and meaning of this day, partaking in a 25-hour fast and refraining from routine work endeavours.
On this day in the State of Israel, no radio or television broadcasts are produced, and airports, government offices and businesses close down for the day. Here in Ontario, our Jewish community will partake in similar practices.
To everyone observing Yom Kippur today, here in Ontario, in Israel and around the world, I wish you and your loved ones a sweet, happy, healthy and peaceful New Year.
Shana Tova and G’mar Chatima Tova!
