MESSAGE FROM JOHN TORY
A sound policy platform depends on three things:
- It has to address the issues that people are most concerned with.
- It has to focus on those things that government can accomplish better than individual citizens.
- It has to be realistic in both costs and timeframes.
Three simple things.
Yet, so often, governments fail to deliver sound policy. Usually because they lose touch with their citizens and the things that matter to them. Or because they lack the courage to tell the truth – to tell people that some problems might take time to fix and that some solutions require compromise.
In 2001, McGuinty's Liberals went to the people of Ontario with 231 promises – at least 50 of which Dalton McGuinty knew he couldn't deliver.
That's just not acceptable – not to me. Not to you.
And so, my first policy commitment to the people of Ontario is that I will only make policy promises I know I can keep .
When Ontarians go to the polls on October 4, 2007 they will know that there is only one party whose promises they can trust - John Tory 's Ontario PC Party.
We'll talk about the issues that matter to you. We'll have a sound plan so that you'll know how and when we'll be able to deliver on those promises.
Our party is well on its way to building our policy platform for the next election.
It's been a grassroots exercise that has involved hundreds of people from across this province. Women and men, young and old, city dwellers, rural residents, party members, people with special knowledge, and people whose origins span the globe.
But we're not finished yet and there are still opportunities for you, your family and friends to contribute to our party's platform.
I encourage all of you to engage in our process, be it through email, fax, joining a Policy Advisory Committee (PAC) or attending local riding policy sessions.
If you would like more information about how to become involved, please contact your local riding association or email policy.ideas@ontariopc.net.
